NDIS Employment support offers specialised assistance in helping people with a disability, injury or health condition find -and keep- suitable employment. It can also provide support in the workplace and to employers.

The initiative aims to ensure that people's disabilities do not necessarily stop them from enjoying the self-confidence, independence, and a sense of purpose that employment can bring.

Starting (or re-starting) work can feel like a big step. If you want information on the options NDIS Employment support offers in Brisbane, you've come to the right place!

NDIS Employment Support services

Pre-employment support

1. Setting Goals

A meeting is set to discuss your personal details, such as any previous work experience, skills or qualifications, plus your present capabilities.

From this, your employment goals are set, and your plan is made.

2. Job search

With the plan in hand, potential career pathways are identified and developed.

Employment support can help with the search and application process too, if necessary.

  • building foundational skills
  • managing your specific barriers to employment

  • any workplace customisation needed
  • on-the-job training

Any type of job, from the public and non-profit sector to Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE), social enterprises, and even self-employment, may qualify for this grant.

3. School Leaver Employment Supports

These are designed to meet the unique requirements of each student and aim to ease their transition from school to work.

4. Employment-related assessment and counselling

This support helps employed individuals by offering workplace evaluation or counselling. For example, participants dealing with trauma resulting from an accident or a deterioration in their health condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can NDIS fund my employment services?

NDIS can fund some disability employment services but not all.

NDIS may fund services that:

  • help find and prepare you for employment (including some transport and equipment)
  • help establish and maintain your employment

NDIS will not fund:

  • paid work experience/internships/placements
  • any services not related to finding and keeping you in employment

What is a supported employment provider?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) helps people with disabilities get and keep a job. They help people with disabilities find employment by assisting them in their job search, providing access to training and coaching, workplace adjustment support, and assistance in starting their own business.

Do I have to use a supported employment provider?

The Disability Employment Service (DES) can help you find and prepare for employment, but NDIS participants don't have to use these providers if they don't want to.

How much NDIS funding is available?

NDIS Participants can access up to $5,000 per year for Employment Support- including up to $2,000 for disability employment services provided by a support worker.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can also provide money for some of the costs associated with finding employment (such as transportation or equipment) and assistance to keep you in your job.
